Ms. Rivera has always made it an important part of her life to be an active member in the community. Her passion for community service steered her in the direction of public policy and she earned her B.A. in Political Science and Mexican-American Studies from San Jose State University. In 2016, Ms. Rivera moved to Sacramento to begin her career in state government as an education lobbyist and continues to make community involvement a key part of her life by volunteering with various non-profit organizations and serving as a board member for We Leverage.

Instructor/Ethnic Studies Instructor, Criminal Justice Academy Lead

Born in Harlem, New York but raised in Sacramento, Michael has always felt that community service and educating the youth of at-risk backgrounds was a lifetime responsibility. After graduating from Hiram Johnson High School, he attended Sacramento State University earned an undergraduate degree in Social Science and his teaching credential in Multicultural education. Michael went back immediately to his high school alma mater at Hiram Johnson to teach U.S. and World History upon earning his credential and began his service as an educator. Michael has worked with various non- profit organizations throughout his years as an educator and excited to serve as board member for We Leverage, as another platform to help young people from at -risk communities to achieve their goals and aspirations.

Efren Caliva

Through personal and professional experiences, Mr. Caliva has always made it a priority to give back to the people of the local communities. Having earned a B.A. in Kinesiology from San Jose State University, Mr. Caliva entered the workforce by establishing his career in the non-profit, athletics, and education field. With over 10 years of leadership experience, Mr. Caliva continues to contribute to the local community by managing an education-related program, and serving an active role as a Board Member for We Leverage.

Regina Burnley is a Business Development with Placer Title in Elk Grove, Ca. Her passion is helping people and being a part of something BIG. I am honored to be serving as a board member for We Leverage. She is hoping her background in the real estate industry since 1998 to present along with my other nonprofit organization affiliation can add value to We Leverage and have a positive influence in the community

Adrian Mohammed

Adrian Mohammed

Legislative Liaison, Union of American Physicians and Dentist

I was born and raised in Chino, CA and attended the University of California, Merced for undergrad, where I majored in Human Biology. During my tenure at UC Merced, I got my start in advocacy by joining the Associated Student Body, where I served as a senator for two terms, as well as, the Director of Student Advocacy for one term. I’m currently the Legislative Liaison for the Union of American Physicians and Dentists/ AFSCME Local 206. Union politics tend to mesh well with my passion for community building, upward mobility, and ensuring justice for marginalized groups. I’m currently the Vice-President of Sacramento Black Young Democrats; a community of individuals pouring their souls into creating a better world for Black Sacramentans. It’s a blessing to be apart of such a dynamic and talented group of individuals who are young, black, and gifted.
